Will2Walk was pleased to help sponsor Barrow Neurological Institute in their 16th Annual Day on the Lake Program
On May 10-12, 2012, the Will2Walk organization participated in the Barrow Neurological Institute Day on the Lake program.
We love this event because of the opportunities it gives people with neurological disabilities to enjoy healthy outdoor activities.
“Day on the Lake is a chance for 120+ people with disabillites to come out to water ski, go fishing, jet ski, kayak, take boat rides, and more,” says Will2Walk Founder Rich Hamill who captained his own boat in the event. “We love how it gives people different disabilities of every level the opportunity to do what able bodied can do without thinking about it.”
Day on the Lake is the only adapted watersports program for those with physical and neurological disabilities offered in Arizona.
Participants suffering from a neurological disability enjoyed the following activities:
- Jet ski rides
- Boat rides
For us here at Will2Walk, an important aspect of the program is how the activities help enhance the sense of independence felt by the participants. “I cannot tell you how exciting it is to see people who thought they could not go on the water with their disability realize that they can do it and without fear,” says Hamill.
Day on the Lake is held every year
2013 will be the 17th annual event held by the institute.
